Humans have always done things that seem completely bizarre… until you find out why.
In this MoxiKids workshop, we’re digging into strange objects, unusual traditions and ridiculous-but-true moments from history to figure out the question behind all of them: Why did humans do that?
Kids will investigate, guess, question and discover the stories behind things that might seem completely weird at first, and see how much our idea of “normal” depends on where and when we live.
We’ll explore everything from strangely decorated historical objects and traditions that somehow stuck around to everyday things we rarely stop to question. Some answers make perfect sense once you know the story. Others are still just… weird.
And we’re ending with something kids can actually take home.
The Chopstick Challenge
We’ll look at the history of chopsticks, how they became part of everyday life across different cultures, and how something completely ordinary in one place can feel unfamiliar somewhere else.
Each child will customize their own pair of wooden chopsticks, learn how to use them, and then put their new skills to the test in our Chopstick Challenge.
Their chopsticks go home with them.
What to expect
This is a hands-on Culture + Society workshop, not a history lesson. We’ll use real images, objects, stories, guessing games, conversation and challenges to explore the past together.
There isn’t a test or a list of facts kids need to remember. We want them leaving with a few stories they have to tell somebody on the ride home…and maybe questioning some of the completely normal things humans do today.

Kinder Villa is located on private property off Sanders Ferry Road, approximately 7 minutes from East Main Street in Hendersonville.

Drop-off
This is a drop-off workshop. Because other children are participating in the space, parents and caregivers cannot remain inside during the session.
If this will be your child’s first time at Kinder Villa and you’d like to see the space beforehand, you’re welcome to arrange a tour with us before the workshop.
